Activities of Daily Life Assessments

An activities of daily living (ADL) assessment analyses a person’s functional performance in the areas of personal self-care and general activities in and around the home.

An occupational therapist determines the level and type of assistance the person requires in order to function at home as independently as possible. The assessment also provides recommendations relating to equipment and adaptations to the environment.

ADL Assessment consists of some/all of the following;

Outcome

  1. ADL assessments provide treatment alternatives to overcoming injury/disability barriers at home.
  2. ADL assessments can lead to an increase in function and independence
  3. It can initiate progress towards return to work through addressing and resolving delays and barriers to recovery.
