What is a psychotherapist?

Psychotherapists work therapeutically with clients in a variety of mental health problems as well as life issues. The types of issues that psychotherapists address include:

There are many different approaches in which a psychotherapist can choose with a client.

How they work?

Generally psychological therapies fall into three main categories. These are:

• Behavioural therapies (focus on cognitions and behaviours)
• Psychoanalytical and psychodynamic therapies (focus on unconscious past events and their residue)
• Humanistic therapies (focus on the present issues and self-development)

Dependent upon the issue at hand a therapist may choose one or a selection of these processes.

All of our Psychotherapists are registered and accredited to professional bodies such as the British Psychological Society (BPS), Health Professions Council (HPC), British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP), United Kingdom Psychotherapy Council (UKCP) or accredited members of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
